Nothing’s Changed

nullNothing’s changed. At all.

Even after the Pittsburgh Steelers marched onto Ford Field in downtown Detroit and won the national football championship, won one for the thumb and, in the process slapped the Seattle Seahawks like they were the butt end of a Dave Chappelle joke.

Even after all of that, after “The Bus” and the “Immaculate Completion” and “Fast” Willie Parker. After the superstitious beards and the promises made by rookie quarterbacks and a victory for the most stable coach in the sport. Even after a final, helpful push over the top by the referees.

Even after all of that … it’s Monday. The day after the Super Bowl.

And nothing’s changed.

We still have war in Iraq. Celebrities still have to run for cover when some people take the words “video shoot” too literally. We still kill too much and steal too much and leave too many of our people homeless and hungry as a nation.

We still have issues.

Nothing’s changed. Except that for a few hours yesterday, even when things may not have changed … we did. Just for a little while.
