Sunday Stanzas

Truly a random Sunday post from me. Just wanted to acknowledge a few things. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

nullUmmm … New York Knicks. Green unis are NOT a good look. Don’t ever, ever, ever wear those again (although I suspect they might since they actually beat Detroit in those ghastly things Friday night. God forbid they consider the costumes good luck charms. They made the Irish holiday St. Wack-trick’s Day. LOL)

Memo to me: If I’m trying to leave the house in a timely manner, DO NOT turn on last week’s episode of InJustice. I get caught up every time. Lawd.

nullThere are brush fires … taking place … less than fifteen minutes away from where I live. In Howard Beach, Queens. And no, they have no chance of spreading this far. But still … I thought I left those in Cali.

Shout out to my ATL folx (they know who they are) who recently purchased houses. You guys are my inspiration. And trust me, I will be joining you sooooon!

Ummmm, happy (?) 3rd anniversary to the United States. Three years ago today we invaded Iraq in a war that seemingly will never be won. Or over. Yeah. Now I’m sick. I will now go set my eyebrows on fire. See? Another thing that makes no sense. That’s all I gotta say.

nullAnd finally, a special acknowledgement to long time ABC anchorman Bill Beutel, who passed away at the age of 75. There were plenty an afternoon when I would get home from work just in time to catch the 6pm news with Bill at the desk. My most endearing memory of his tenure was Roz Abrams, the perky anchor of the 5pm newscast, and her daily words, ” … that’s all for us here at 5pm. Have a great night. The news continues now … with Bill Beutel.” The raspy-voiced, studious Beutel would then take over with a quick “Thanks, Roz,” and then get right into the top stories of the day.

Today, he’s the top story of my day. Bill, you did good. Rest in peace, Sir.

I understand about In Justice. I was late to pray for pay because I was sitting on the couch watching it. I JUST LOVE that show!!!!!

  3. Be careful with the fires so close. They spread without warning and don’t depend on the government to warn you about them either. They didn’t in Cali.

  4. About the war…an artist buddy of mine is working on a multimedia project to honor the U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq as well as Iraq civilians who have been killed. Discussed this at dinner tonight, and the general senselessness of it all. Poured some out for all the pawns in Bush’s war games…

  5. with my cousin in iraq, for his second time, in the midst of confusion and carnage, away from his wife and family, i really hate to be reminded that it’s been three years - ‘cause that just reinforces my fear that this thing is indefinite, like korea - and damn it, i want my “little brother” to come home.
